The word wine comes from the Latin vinum (wine),which is related to the Greek oinos (οίνος). The root vin- has been adopted by many European languages, such as German (der Wein), French (vin), Italian (vino), etc.
From the same root: wineglass, vine, vinegar, vineyard etc.
In modern Greek:
a) oenos: wine [οίνος, κρασί]
b) oenopneuma: alcohol [οινόπνευμα]
c) oenopoeio: wine factory [οινοποιείο]
d) oenopoeios: wine maker [οινολόγος]
e) oenologos: enologist [οινολόγος]
